Early life and education

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was born on 28 June in Sedgefield, Western Cape, to Bennie Peters and Anne-Marie Steenkamp.^[2][3] She identified her half-sister, Franje, who was born with cerebellar agenesis, as the most significant motivator in her life.

Franje died on 4 May , aged ^[4][5][6][7]

Nel-Peters graduated from North-West University in March , a few days before winning the Miss South Africa competition.^[8] She is fluent in both English and Afrikaans.^[9][10]

Nel-Peters also won Miss Varsity Cup and was a Top 5 finali
