Augustin Pyrame de Candolle, a Swiss and French botanist, was born in Geneva in 1778.

Inspired by Jean-Pierre Vaucher's botanical lectures, he pursued studies in Paris under the guidance of Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu.

Candolle's significant contributions to botany include:
