Vedran Corluka was born on 5 February 1986 in Derventa, Bosnia, and Herzegovina.

His mother is Andja Corluka, and his father is Jozo Corluka. The family moved to Zagreb in 1992 due to the war in Bosnia. His father is an engineer and also works as Vedran's manager. He has one brother.

Beginning football at the young age of eight, he played for Dinamo Zagreb's youth teams and had managed to impress many scouts from the youth academy.
